Erik Pierre Hofmann Luthier

I build classical guitars in a very personal way, blending my own design and concept with traditional instrument-making techniques, including old-fashioned features like V-joints, handmade inlays and genuine French polishing. Being influenced by historical guitars of various styles and epochs, my main concern in building a nonetheless modern guitar is to produce a well-balanced and reasonably easy to play instrument with a colorful and malleable tone. The range of classical guitars I offer includes standard 6-string as well as guitars with additional bass strings outside the fretboard.

All of these are available with either a standard 648 mm vibrating string-length or a customised shorter string-length, AIessi tuning machines or PeghedsTM. I build classical guitars with either cedar or spruce top, but clearly prefer the latter; flamed maple, various rosewoods, satinwood and Makassar ebony are my favorite choices for the back and sides. In the past, I also built copies of historical guitars, but I lack the time to continue this line of production, though I might be talked into making a copy of the Anton Stauffer eight-string guitar from my personal collection from time to time…
Prices go from 4.000,- to 8.000,- Euros (hardcase included) and my actual delivery time for a new instrument is between 12 and 18 months. Please note that I do not take dealer’s orders: I am a slow builder and I simply don’t have the time to produce more than what I can actually sell myself. Also, one of my main interests in building guitars remains the personal relationship to the players, be they professionals or amateurs.
